GoodNotes in Brief
Why use GoodNotes?
Beading Treasures is in no way affiliated with GoodNotes, we love it and it is the app we use. It also won the IPad app of the Year Award for 2022.
GoodNotes is an annotating app that, when using the IPad, allows you to plan with an Apple Pencil, just like using a traditional paper planner. But so much better!
You can still use GoodNotes on your Mac but type in your info instead of writing in, you could also use Xodo on Android devices.
You can download GoodNotes for free from the Appstore to try it out the only difference is that you will be limited to importing only 3 PDF files. ( If you delete any files/documents in GoodNotes, make sure to empty the Trash otherwise the files/documents will still be counted among the three free allotted to you).
And if you haven’t yet experienced Digital Beading with a Digital Line Guide and want a sneak preview of what it is all about watch the video below. The pattern itself has already been imported into GoodNotes and in the video, an Ipad and a stylus were used.

Importing a Pattern into GoodNotes
Although it can seem overwhelming at first when you start digital beading, it is very easy to get started.
The steps are almost the same for the iPad and the Mac. Remember that it can be any PDF document, such as a wordchart or a grid, and you will import them into GoodNotes precisely the same way.
This method of importing documents into GoodNotes can also be used for all of our Digital Beading Planners.
Keep reading and I will show you just how easy it is to add your Patterns to GoodNotes.
How to Import Your Digital Beading Pattern into GoodNotes
My suggestion is to try both these methods and then stick to the one you find the easiest and the quickest. To show both of these methods, I will be using the “Live Love Bead” FREE pattern from Beading Treasures.
Open a Pattern from inside the GoodNotes App
This is for when you have the GoodNotes app already open.
Importing a document into the GoodNotes app.
- Click on the empty document with the plus (+) sign in the middle.
You should be presented with a drop-down menu with various options to choose from.
- Click on the Import menu option
A window will open.
- Locate the pattern document you wish to import into GoodNotes
It can be stored in the cloud or on your device.
- Click on your located file and it will open inside GoodNotes.
- File opened within GoodNotes
Open a Pattern from a folder into GoodNotes
This is for when you go straight to the file you want to import from outside of the GoodNotes. Remember that the file may be in your Downloads folder or on the cloud.
- 1. Select the document by taping and holding.
If you click on the document without holding, a preview of the document may open. Just find the share button and continue
- 2. Click Share in the menu.
It is usually grouped with ‘Copy’ and ‘Move’
- 3. Select Open in GoodNotes
Other compatible apps may also be listed.
- 4. The GoodNotes app will Open and you will have a window asking how you wish to import the document. Select Import as New Document.
- 5. File opened in Goodnotes, ready to be used.
That’s it.
Those are the 2 easy ways to import your pattern documents into GoodNotes.
Now the fun begins!
Play around and get familiar with it. Your beadwork is about to become so much easier.
