I wrote about this in a newsletterโฆ in answer to the question:
“What is the best color thread to use with my pattern?”
I received messages thanking me for the info and also telling me how much it is easier to weave with.
So I thought I would share this information here with anyone who is searching for it or missed the newsletter…
This is gonna be a very short article… lets get into it!
The best thread to use with your patterns?
I am answering this question specifically for my patterns, that is… those available from beadingtreasures.com and BeadingTreasuresArt.Etsy.com
My answer is always the same…
For looming I prefer the white NymoB for both warp and weft. And white for peyote as well.
Here is why… I design all my patterns from actual bead samples with white thread woven through the beads… It makes the color of the beads pop if they are not opaque.
So to get the best translation from pattern to tapestry I suggest you use white color thread. I prefer to use the large spool depicted below rather than the tiny bobbins because I use a lot of it for a tapestry so it makes sense to have a larger size but also because the smaller bobbins tend to make the thread curly which makes it easier to tangle while weaving.
White thread for the warp as well?
Does the warp thread need to be white?
No it does not, but the beauty of using Nymo B in white is that you do not need to purchase both Black and White if the whole of the background is black. Why? Because Nymo B is so thin it does not show in between the beads, which lends to a cleaner and more professional look to a loom woven tapestry.
Below is Sunny Side Up which I wove in loom stitch with Nymo B for both the warp and the weft. You can see that the background is all black but none of the warp threads show.

Other Advantages of Using Nymo B
Nymo B is easier to weave with for both peyote and loom stitch.
It tends to tangle less, even when using a longer thread.
It is also much easier to thread a needle with it, especially those tiny eyes of the beading needle.
Does it have to be Nymo?
No. It depends on how you want your tapestry to feel while weaving it and when it is complete. It also depends on what type of thread you like to work with to achieve the tension you desire. But the color should be white.
Those of us who have been weaving for a while will likely have a preference for a type of thread that we use over and over again. Mine is NymoB. I love how the tapestry feels like silky material once it is complete.
What is your preferred thread to use?
There is no right or wrong.
There is no thread police.
No tapestry inspector.
Use what feels and looks great to you…
If you do not enjoy the process and the end result, then what is the point?
